CALLEY O'NEILL, Founder and President

A highly respected Big Island artist, visionary designer, painter, public artist, social ecologist, conservationist, and teacher, Calley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree summa cum laude from Pratt Institute, NY, and earned a Master's Degree in Social Ecology from Goddard College, Vermpnt.  

Well-known in Hawai’i, journalists have described her art, which spans four decades as ethno-visionary, dynamic, deeply moving, meticulous and breathtaking. In terms of her love of nature and the future, her magnum opus is her public art and  The Rama Exhibition, A Journey of Art and Soul for the Earth - a work in progress - an international traveling exhibition of art, ecology and awareness dedicated to all the children and a healthy future. 


JEB BARSH,  Member

As one of a great team, Jeb Barsh is a highly dedicated keeper who loves his work today more than ever.  He worked in the elephant barn for years before moving in 2012 to the African Savanna Exhibit. Creative, quick witted and passionate about saving endangered species, Jeb has worked with animals in one way or another since childhood.  He is a dedicated father and understands the similarities between human relations and relating to animals.  Caring is caring. 

VALERIE CARTWRIGHT, Vice President and Fundraising Council

Kona resident Valerie Cartwright lived and worked for thirty years on Maui, many of those in fundraising and event planning, including her pivotal work to support the construction and opening of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center and The Nature Conservancy of Hawai'i.  Having moved to the Big Island, Valerie learned of the Ellison Onizuka Kona at Keahole International Airport mural project, and felt compelled to be of service.  Valerie hopes to use her passion for environmental conservation, her love and caring for the ocean, as well as the power of art for cultural preservation, along with her wealth of skills to build enthusiasm for the project along the Kona coast.

JULIA FAIRCHILD, Secretary/Treasurer

Julia Fairchild is the web weaver, research and administrative assistant, official seamstress, Calley's right hand, co-pilot, and more.  

Julia earned a B.A. in Psychology from Antioch University in 1998.  Now, a sensitive and self-taught web designer, Julia is intent on helping creative people with big dreams move their ideas out into the world.
